Yoga Babies event at the Richmond Literature Festival

“We’re the yoga babies, look what we can do!”

I had the most wonderful start to the week on Monday at the Richmond Literature Festival. I was honoured to have lead the parent and toddler yoga session alongside illustrator Sheena Dempsey for her and Fearne Cotton’s picture book, Yoga Babies.

Sheena is such a lovely lady and super polite! Her personality is very much like her illustration style; soft, sweet and whimsical. Our event was an hour long to include a yoga session, live book reading and book signing at the end.

There was around 15 families in total and the atmosphere was calm but buzzing – you could feel the energy from the children which was really nice.

Our 25mins yoga session was based around the book and its poses including happy baby pose, downward dog, butterfly pose and rainbow pose. Along a few of the poses, I sang nursery rhyme songs to accompany them which everyone enjoyed. It was a little nerve-racking at the start – there was a lot of pressure from the kids as they all went completely silent when it was singing time. I guess kids really love songs! 🙂

The Richmond Literature Festival is currently still going on with Sunday 25th November a special book reading and signing from illustrator, Axel Scheffler who is known for his work alongside Julia Donaldson in The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, Room on the Broom, and many more most families would’ve heard of.

Unlike pre-bookings, these tickets can only be booked on the day at the event from 10am onwards. There are three book reading sessions with Axel Scheffler; 12.30pm, 2.30pm and 4.30pm. Best of all, the event is FREE (donations are very welcome!)
